ECHO
Project ECHO is a virtual, mentorship and learning network that reduces public health disparities by connecting the Provincial and districts including frontline workers with national experts to meet the urgent needs of public health concerns in surveillance, emergency preparedness and public health laboratory services. ZNPHI ECHO is a way to bring people together, spread knowledge, and a whole sense of community of practice.
When one participant in ECHO shares their expertise with their peers, each of them can go on to improve the lives of hundreds of people in their facilities and catmint areas.
ECHO participants engage in a virtual community with their peers where they share support, guidance and feedback. As a result, our collective understanding of how to disseminate and implement best practices across diverse disciplines continuously improves and expands.
What We Do
We believe that the right knowledge, at the right place, at the right time can improve and save innumerable lives. That’s why we scale what works, by developing topics and creating a sustainable system for just-in-time virtual mentoring and collaborative problem-solving.
In today’s world more than ever, we need to move critical knowledge to where it’s needed most, and a lightning speed.
Our goal is to connect every frontline worker, in every corner of the districts, to a community of practice that helps them hone and acquire new skills for greater impact in Disease surveillance, Emergency Preparedness and Response, One Health and Anti-microbial resistance awareness.
We work across health, academia, climate resilience, systems strengthening, and more always centering local leadership and contextual knowledge with the goal of improving health and wellbeing for all.

How We Work
At ZNPHI ECHO, we work with partners and line ministry to build capacity where it’s needed most ensuring that people everywhere can access the knowledge, they need to save lives and improve wellbeing around one health, disease surveillance, Public Health Laboratory services and emergency response interventions. We are a trained sub hub by the Ministry of Health (“Super hub”) licensed by Project ECHO to train other organizations to use the ECHO Model. This allows for a much larger network effect and much quicker adoption of the model, worldwide.

Our Model
During an ECHO session, participants present real (anonymized) cases to the specialists and each other for discussion and recommendations. Participants learn from one another, as knowledge is tested and refined through a local lens. This continuous loop of learning, mentoring and peer support is what makes our ECHO unique, with a long-lasting impact far beyond that of an in-person training, webinar or e-learning course. Our knowledge-sharing model brings together specialists from multiple focus areas for robust, holistic approach.
A growing body of research consistently demonstrates the efficacy and sustainability of the ECHO tele monitoring Model across disciplines, including health care and education. Your organization can use the ECHO Model to expand educators’ expertise and help students’ close achievement gaps. To support education-focused projects and initiatives, ZNPHI ECHO now offers an introduction session targeted towards ECHO for capacity building programs.
